Prepare for Winter
Added [Thursday November 25 2004 : 5:46:21 PM]

Ok, here's the scenario, Laurel & Hardy plus banana skin... the thing is,
you know what's going to happen, it's just a matter of when.

At the moment the weather is recreating this scene for us perfectly by
setting up a significant blocking pattern to the North. This feature
forces
the polar jet stream to dive South, this has two effects. Firstly colder
air
floods South, the second is more pronounced and longer living as the
ingredients are there for the development of a blocking Scandinavian high,
with warm air flooding in a lower levels, whilst ice cold air streams in
at
upper levels to the Northwest.

The message is clear, although the UK is unlikely to see a major snow
event
in the next 10 days, the cool down will be remarkable and next week will
be
the week that Winter bites...

My Comment:
This will be interesting but we all know it is
not certain. Darren's model runs do not show it yet and as Darren has
pointed out the runs are all over the place. However, I think we are in
for
some interesting times.

I think the Laurel & Hardy analogy is very appropriate. I'm waiting for
the slip-up in these forecasts.
