Default Visitors from China

Steve J wrote:
Bablake hosted a visit fro 20 delegates from the Chinese Met Office
today.

The delegation is over here for 21 days on a fact finding tour, so we
were honoured to be included in their itinerary.

They were particularly interested today to learn how a school
contributed to the Met Office climatological network, and how we serve
the public and the local community in Coventry & Warwickshire.

The delegation went on to Manchester University to hear a presentation
on the history of meteorology later in the day.

Their itinerary for the rest of their time in the UK includes visits
to the Met Office, ECMWF, Reading University's meteorology dept, a
talk by Liz Bentley from the Royal Meteorological Society and the
Weather Club, a tour of the BBC's Weather Centre with Michael Fish, a
talk by Steve Bennett about his experience developing meteorology
teaching software, a visit to Oxford's Radcliffe Observatory, and a
seminar series focused on numerical weather prediction (which is their
speciality).

They also are visiting tourist sites like Coventry Cathedral this
morning, and the sites of London apparently.

As we have some exchange students from China with us for 2 years in
the sixth form, they were even greeted in Mandarin, so it was quite an
experience for us all, especially my weather helpers.

It is uplifting to speak with weather entusiasts from the other side
of the world!
