Brian Gaze's winter forecast is sadly going wrong already when he predicted a
settled first half of December.
" December
Often quiet and dry conditions are expected to persist through much of the
first half of the month with temperatures remaining close to the average for
most of the time. The second half of the month is likely to bring a notable
change to more unsettled conditions at first, but then a significant outbreak of
wintry weather bringing widespread and sharp frosts, and also a significant risk
of snow for many areas, although the north and east of the UK look to be at the
highest risk. We think the cold snap is most likely to occur shortly before
Christmas. For the month as a whole temperatures are expected to be about 0.5C
above the Central England Temperature (CET) average. Precipitation levels are
likely to be generally below average. "
All models are now going for a quick return to zonality and
generally mild and wet and potential stormy conditions.
The *most* reputable forecasting organization in this country (ie the Met
Office) is predicting another mild winter overall.
I'm a great snow fan and a member of the TWO forum, but I just get tired and
bored with the seemingly endless "snow and cold weather love-ins", usually at
T+168 or greater range. I prefer nowadays to wait and see what happens and when
it does snow to actually go outside and enjoy it ! It seems rather pointless to
me to wish one's life away waiting for that elusive severe winter. But there you
go, that's just me.
Will.
