.... well the 'significant' rain duly arrived as briefly noted last
night. Three thundery episodes ...
06/1935Z - 06/2023Z, never particularly spectacular here (though note
report of possible weak tornado Christchurch nearby).
06/2112Z - 06/2120Z, thunder heard, several muffled rumbles, again, as
above, the activity seemed to be towards the SE or SSE and never
overhead; discharge every 10-15 seconds or so, mainly CC/IC, but a
couple of bright/vivid CG strokes seen - something like 5 km away to
SE which, if striking objects, must have left some impact.
07/0558Z - 07/0630Z (latter time determined by the 10-minute rule):
weak, low audio-frequency rumbles fairly near, with short period of
moderate/heavy rain around the start of the period, soon becoming
slight.
Total rainfall in rain-day ending 07/0900Z = 11.2 mm which represents
roughly a fifth of our eLTA 1971-2000, useful, but already evaporating
readily despite the rather high dew points (13degC).
Repeat performance possible this evening I fancy ....
Martin.
