Is this far enough north to be getting the midnight sun at this time
of year? If not, I'd have expected a higher diurnal range.

It's on Spitzbergen, isn't it? If so, the maritime nature of the
location is going to tend to keep the diurnal range down. Also even if
it's not quite getting the midnight sun, it is only going to be below
the horizon for a couple of hours.
