*European overview*

27th JULY 2011

Max °C Min °C Rain (mm)
8.7 5.1 - Ny Alesund(8m)

Is this far enough north to be getting the midnight sun at this time
of year? If not, I'd have expected a higher diurnal range.

It's on Spitzbergen, isn't it? If so, the maritime nature of the
location is going to tend to keep the diurnal range down. Also even if
it's not quite getting the midnight sun, it is only going to be below
the horizon for a couple of hours.

I've been on a ship at Alesund in a late June heatwave. It's still
pretty light at midnight but it was 27C in the daytime, further up at
Trondheim. It's on the Norwegian coast roughly between Bergen and Trondheim.
