After a few days with quite a lot of cloud at times and/or very hazy
sunshine, the cloud melted away this morning and out came proper sun,
i.e., strong.
Unbroken sunshine on the coast with cumulus building up inland.
A max of 25.6°C with just a slight sea breeze and DPs around 16°C made
for the perfect day. It even impressed the in-laws (who are with us at
the moment and are from Lisbon), and they felt it was warm enough to
have a swim whilst we were down on the beach this afternoon. That also
impressed them (open SST up to 20°C, a little warmer along the shore),
as the sea around the west coast of Portugal often remains chilly all
summer, especially north of Lisbon.
Atlantic air returns on Thursday and then your in-laws can experience
some proper British summer weather not this continental hot stuff!
Not quite as hot in Haytor thankfully with a max. of 21.7C now making it
10 days this summer over 21C. Possibly another tomorrow and then that
will be it for a while. Countryside is still nice and green and lush here
as it should be in England.
Did you not get any rain overnight and AM Nick? We got 1.4mm to keep the
garden soil wet.

After a wet first half of July gave some good recovery to the drought
things are getting pretty dry again here especially with the temps now in
the high twenties. Still some prospects of rain later in the week.
Dave
Yes Dave. This hot and dry spell will be a distant memory in two days time.
Plenty of time for another one though as it is only early August!
