I guess their 'summer' is over...

Well, they stopped getting midnight sun on 24th August.
The sun now only gets to about 20 degrees above the horizon at noon
(roughly equivalent to Dec/Jan in the UK).

I wonder if that makes a bigger difference than the normal progression of
weather systems?

Radiative cooling is a slow steady process. Modulated by synoptics, wind
direction and cloud cover.
