Default winter forecast anyone?

Atlantic SST anomalies have warm water south of 40N with a cold band from
Newfoundland to Ireland. This suggests more westerly weather than usual.
However, as I've said before, this time of year seems to be subject to
relatively rapid changes in SST patterns and I'll probably have to wait
to the end of November before having any confidence in issuing an SST-
based winter forecast - and probably not even then. ;-)
