Default First snowflakes on dartmoor

Could well be, by or just soon after the end of the month, as this cold
cross-atlantic flow sets in.
GFS 06Z ensemble turns it much colder after about 5 days, though with still
a few milder members. Been consistent now for a colder Atlantic regime now.
I use Dublin to assess snow potential for Dartmoor and look for 850hPa
for -3C or less. Not the best snow predictor of course but a useful guide
for my altitude and above. By the end of the month Dublin has circa 40%
chance of this. Please don't run away with the idea that I am predicting a
lot of lying snow I'm definitely not, all I'm saying is that for high ground
the first snowflakes may start falling by the end of the month or soon
after. Always a nice milestone in the year for me, like the first single
figure max., first frost (still to come of course), etc. LOL may even get a
snowflake before a frost this year :-)
