I wonder, we Dutch folks (present company not included) are buying loads of
heavy fireworks and in 1 hour it's all gone, leaving a lot of smoke, smell
and scared pets.
In a little town like Balk it's a madhouse already around 0.00, imagine the
big cities overhere...
In neighbouring countries they think we're quite crazy (and we are!). They
watch big public fireworks and keep their money in their pockets.
What about you overthere in Arizona?

Well first off I personally see no problem with people thinking others are
crazy ;-).
Over here July 4th (our Independence Day) is our primary fireworks day and
although the "Fun Fireworks" like Sky Rockets and Firecrackers are against
the law in Arizona there's a Fireworks stand in New Mexico ~ an hour from
here that makes Multi Millons in Annual Sales and I can assure you not many
of them are from their fellow New Mexico residents ;-). But even at that
most of the Fireworks are public displays. Pretty dull huh?

Here is Seattle, we try to blow up the Space Needle each New Year.
While "personal" fireworks are banned within the city, there are still
quite a few flashes and booms in the neighborhood. And usually at
least one residence in the region will burn due to some fool living
down to the reputation...

As Ed notes, July 4th is even louder - and in Seattle, just as rainy -
as New Years.
