Out looking for meteors at 2 AM, just got mountains and clouds lit by the
Moon and stars shining through the haze. I did see one meteor and it was
a
beauty, big, bright and slow. It's only 430 I think I'll go out again.
At
least it's warm.

That's beautiful in a weird way. Warm?

Several degrees above zero. This is the winter that wasn't or not yet.
Records set yesterday but we have had only a few days where it hasn't
climbed above zero. Supposedly heading for 13C today. Long range forecast
shows highs dropping to normal levels (-4) by the end of January but not
before. Compared to last winter it's like spring. Of course these temps
mean howling winds which just came up as I type this. Last night the wind
was very strong as I left to the point of blowing my vehicle around a bit on
the highway. 25 km west at my usual spot there was not a breath of wind as
it was at a lower elevation and the warm wind was probably a few hundred
feet above the ground. When I returned home I drove back into the chinook
as I went higher and at home the wind was still howling and it was
noticeabky warmer than out in the country.
