As it stands as of today it's the 6th warmest since 1960, with a very
mild day forecast for tomorrow.
Looking zonal again after a short rather cold spell this weekend.

2007 - 5.6c
1983 - 5.4c
1975 - 5.3c
1990 - 5.3c
2008 - 5.3c
2012 - 5.1c
2005 - 5.0c

1960-2011 average is 3.1c

Quite amazing that 4 of the warmest January's on record will have
occurred in the last 8 years.
So much for colder winters returning after all last years hype!

The 2005-8 period is particularly noteworthy as having had 3 very mild
Januaries in four years. I seem to recall that around then, as now,
Greece had some notable cold spells. I suppose that high pressure
suitably placed to bring us very mild weather is quite likely to bring
northerlies or northeasterlies to Greece.

I'll put in a guess that by the end of this month the mean will be in
the region of 4.5C.
