This computer is, I assure you, set to GMT (currently 19:47).

The server through which my outgoing posts are sent (not the news
server, the smtp server) is as stated in Germany. So the header
implies that the server stamps the time on the message, as indeed it
should do.

There are two things I don't understand:

1. Which machine is it that's misconfigured? I'd noticed your incorrect
timestamps before but couldn't work out where the problem was.
2. Why are you using smtp to post to news?

1) None of my computers is misconfigured, and there is no problem with
my timestamps being incorrect. Some of my computers are simply not set
to the same time zone as yours. This is not unusual for people who work
across time zones ... some even have more than one clock on the wall
(but I do not).

2) I don't 'use' smtp to post news ... but the server ID appeared in the
header of a post I was discussing. Interestingly, I can see other
posters ISP servers in their headers, but I cannot see my own in mine.
Perhaps headers have become suddenly meaningless, or my brain has died,
(or both).

Summary:
My main desktop computer is currently set to GMT.
My laptop is set to where I happen to be when using it, or not,
depending on if I remember to change it.
The router which connects my LAN to the WAN is set to GMT.
My LAN fileserver (with webcam) is set to CET.

The web server which hosts my domains (I do not own it of course, I rent
space on it in the normal way) is in Germany and that server, along with
the email servers (in and out), is of course set to CET.

I have no links to web hosts or email / news / etc. servers in the UK.

I have active Internet connection facilities in Italy and Scotland, and
inactive setups in Spain and Sweden.
