Could this end up being their mildest winter on record?

Judging by the ice conditions, it must be the warmest so far. There seems
only a small tongue of ice affecting the NE of Svalbard and that might
even go if this keeps up.

Almost half of the Kara Sea is free of pack-ice and there seems little
or none surrounding Novaya Zemlya. There is less ice in the region now
than I would have expected to see at the end of July back in the 60s and
70s.
