As I said, they *have* stuck to the standards. If you have any doubts,
try http://validator.w3.org/

Doesn't pass, at least:

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/uk/radar/index.html

Doesn't, "Line 672, Column 240: end tag for element "IFRAME" which is
not open"

The javascript isn't checked either only the HTML markup.

Why do they need javascript to do the mouseover drop down menu? They
can be implemented in standards complient HTML without javascript.
Indeed the mouse over drop down menus still work if you turn off
javascript so the javascript really isn't required at all. Seems that
it is only there to inflate the egos of the web "designers" and to
give them more work so they appear "busy" thus justifying their
jobs. Or to give the users a "deep web experience" I don't want a
fing "experience" when I visit the meto website, I want *information*
presented without tons of bells and whistles that just slow down
access to the wanted information. If I want an "experience" I'll jump
off a bridge with a large rubber band attached to my ankles.

Well put Dave. Much of the web is becoming like this and increasingly
I'm turning to mobile versions of sites for instant loading and no
nonsense info.

Thirded (if there is such a word).

Give us the info without the piffle. And one of the Golden Rules
applies - the more fancy stuff you have, the more there is to go wrong.
And I would rather my taxes went to provide a public information site
rather than to fill the coffers of a web design agency.

Look across the pond for how it should be done - the various NOAA sites
amngst others. Over there, people's lives depend on weather information
being delivered promptly and simply so there is maximum access to it.
