Those maxima for Kenley and Wattisham are impressively low, given their
locations.
... from the Met Office list of extremes, they have (presumably from the
network of CDLs or similar) the following:-
Lowest max 0900-2100 5.5 °C Wych Cross
Tudor will no doubt put me right, but I believe that Wych Cross is in
East Sussex. If I've got the right place, then there is an Outdoor
Education Centre around 200 m amsl (roughly 600ft) in the Ashdown
Forest, so given the conditions yesterday, it could have been rather bleak!

Yes it is on the western edge of the Ashdown Forest, in the High Weald.
According to my OS map the outdoor centre lies between the 190 and 200m
contours, the 200m contour is a tiny little circle next to the road..
