The last of the North Pennine Snow patches melted yesterday on Mickle
Fell. Nothing has been visible on Crossfell for a
few days now apart from a brief covering from passing showers. Overall the
season has been fairly poor compared with
recent years when certain patches lasted from December through to June. I
can safely report that glaciation of the High .
Pennines is unlikley this year !

Normally at this time of year, I watch the last two snow patches on the tops
of the mountains above Loch Glascarnoch. Not until they melt (usually in the
last few days of May) do the nights become warmer. This year the snow levels
have been dropping nightly and we have permanent snow down to 300m. It was
still snowing at this level (93m AMSL) when I left to do the weeks shopping
in Dingwall at 10.30 BST this morning.

Still to give the lawn its first cut, trees starting to show green,
daffodils starting to go over and the first primroses showing. Any summer
now unlikely this year.
