To add to that - seems my mobile is WAP only so I can't access
standard HTML or XHTML pages, so perhaps there's no chance of being
able to access radar images on the mobile?

even with WAP it should be able to show b/w images. I'm not sure though
if any serviceprovider offers this. Mine (Vodafone) over here in Holland
does offer (x)HTML since they only support a limited nr of handsets.
