Yes Adam, you are right, but shouldn't they tell us in the article
how the spatial mean is worked out, over what area of the UK? This is a

However it is measured or estimated and regardless of the variation over the
UK, I have understood "the wettest June on record in the UK" as meaning the
June when the most rain (by weight/volume) fell onto the land surface (plus
inland lakes?) of the UK during the month. Such a term does not need to be
qualified.
