What was the wettest year on record in England or if recorded the UK?

Joe
Wolverhampton.

In the England and Wales series going back to 1766 here at the top
three:

1. 1284.9 mm in 1872
2. 1247.3 mm in 1768
3. 1232.5 mm in 2000

Len

So it's not been that long ago at number 3 spot. Will 2012 get anywhere
near the top 3, Len, if it rains 3 inches for the last 6 months of this
year?

Joe
Wolverhampton.

Due to the dry Feb and March, the total rain for the first 6 months of
2012 is not so remarkable.
England and Wales data back to 1766:
487.6 mm this year, average 395.6 mm. That's 122%.

So to beat the record wet of 1284.9 mm in 1872, we need 797.3 mm (31.4
ins).
That is 133 mm (5.24 ins) per month for the next 6 months.

Not very likely IMO.
