"COLOMBO (Reuters) - A huge earthquake hit southern Asia on Sunday,

setting
off a tsunami that drowned hundreds in Sri Lanka and India, sent

Indonesians
rushing to high ground and washed away bathers on the Thai tourist

island of
Phuket. "

ISTR watching a programme about Tsunamis warning about this sort of

disaster
for underdeveloped areas without mass communications.

The following is a link to the discussion about this... horrifying !

My
thoughts are with all affected even though there's absolutely nothing
that could have been done about it !

Dont have the time to read that, but the radio news said these tidal
waves can travel hundreds of miles in one hour. Apparently the quake
has been upgraded to 8.9, which is the 5th largest in the last 100
years. What is horrific is that the death toll this morning (when I
drove to work) was a couple of hundred. When I looked at the news at
lunchtime it had risen to 5000+.
