It makes for some very pretty landscapes, and there is something
pleasurable about the crunch crunch crunch under my feet. These days,
IMO, this doesn't compensate for its disruptive nature therefore I tend
to err on the side of hoping for no significant snow.

Yes I'd agree there - snow's pretty and often arrives in the sort of
very dry airmasses which provide the only possible relief from one of
my pet hates - pervading, hanging-around damp - that we can get in the
dark months of the year.
Rain by contrast is disruptive but also humdrum, happening on a
regular basis with no real novelty value (unless accompanied by
thunder and/or in the form of a heavy shower after a hot day) - I find
it hard to get any interest from a day like today particularly as I'd
normally be outside enjoying the countryside on a Saturday afternoon.
Hrrmph. ;-)

Day darkness event seems to be coming in now. Looking on the bright
side, with less than a month to the solstice, there's every chance
this could well be the worst Saturday of the 2012-13 winter season.
