I suspect it was a bit of a panicky warning being the first widespread

OTOH, so far as we're concerned, the warning was timely and accurate.
I was going to say those in Scotland have been reporting a more accurate
forecast.
It started snowing at about 19:00 yesterday, by this morning we had
about 3cms ...
An inch, oh woe the world is going to end! B-)
We didn't get a yellow warning about the inch that fell on Thursday night
last week, or the following days of sub-zero temps but just warm enough
during the day to slightly thaw that snow and have it refreeze into ice. Damn
lethal out there...
Currently 2.6C occasional rain, cloudbase not far above us. And it shows how
cold the ground/ice has got in the last few days as some of that ice is still
hard, despite the rain and air temp.
