RMK: I would describe conditions as extreme this morning. There's
a glaze of ice on all surfaces, probably with the exception of salted
roads and pavements. I took a couple of steps out of our back door
and decided that it wasn't very clever at all. It's exceptionally
slippery.
I think there might be a few broken bones this morning. It should only
be a short-lived problem, though, as the temp is rising steadily and
looks like it'll soon be above zero.

RMK: Although the air temp has now gone above zero all surfaces
are still below zero and the drizzle and fog continue to freeze on
impact.
It's extremely slippery and, judging by the antics of the people trying
to
negotiate their way along the road, walking is a very hazardous business.

Some folk up here in Haytor have shoe grips (bit like crampons but for
ordinary shoes). They seem to work very well. I think they originated in
Scandinavia? Don't you have grit boxes in Tideswell?
