Those warnings are for 65 mph wind gusts, 1-2 inches of snow and icy
roads. That isn't that unreasonable is it?

That doesn't seem unreasonable for a yellow warning at least.
Here yesterday at work at 85m there was some pretty heavy snow
which arrived quickly, granted the roads had been gritted and it
was rather wet so the snow was struggling to settle on them, however
I know from experience that even at 160m where I live conditions
can be quite different from Bolton town centre Higher still and
they were probably pretty bad.
