They're getting excited over on TWO, that's for sure!

Not sure I really share that excitement, I would if I thought it was
going to be a notable (for March)event here, but I don't think the
synoptics are right for that.
It's not even as if this winter has been 'snow-starved' here, far
from it so I'm not desperately looking for any 'last throw of the
dice' winter snow action.

True we have had some good snow this winter but this spell is shaping
up to be a long and very cold one, perhaps even the coldest of the
winter. Add in greater insolation at this time of year and we could
see some cracking convection in the deep cold air, even west of the
Pennines, Col. I also fancy the speed of onset will take many by
surprise too. (Not usw afficionados of course :-) ).
So, yes I'm looking forward to it and when it is over then we can get
on with the business of Spring and the main start of the growing
season in April (at least that is when it is up here).

I've seen some 850mb plots and they just drop off the edge of
a cliff in 4/5 days' time so the onset of the cold looks likely to be
sudden. I have warned people at work about this and they seemed
surprised
I take your point about insolation and deep, cold air but I'm always
sceptical about snow here in showery E/NE situations, but of course
March is a whole different ball game to winter proper.
