Default March 2013 might be the coldest March since 1963, or is it 1962?

The winter of 1962-63 has of course passed into folklore, so presumably

it's 1963 and those outlets stating 1962 are using a lazy shorthand for

62-63

1962 it was.

My records at Southend-on-Sea have Mach 1962 as a mean maximum of 7.3°C
Currently I stand at 6.5°C for March 2013

However, 1964 was 7.2°C
1969 was 7.0°C
1996 7.1°C

The warmest I can find is 1961 with 13.4°C
