Default Trip up north 22nd-30th March

Hi all,

Just back from a truly fantastic holiday in great weather up north.

Drove up north in our campervan last Friday 22nd. Saw my first snow around
Gloucester. Got to Leeds and my daughter's street had just been ploughed.
Quite icy but OK driving downhill. Huge drifts in the Dales that weekend
with most of the snow aroyund the stone walls. Then spent some time in the
Lakes - awesome. Four days of walking in deep snow with 2 metre drifts above
300 metres. Did not go above 650 metres though because of severe wind chill
(-8C and 30-40 knots) and did not have the right kit for those conditions..
Nearly came unstuck on Fleetwith Pike though in Buttermere, went up the
steep side and lost the path due to deep snow, quite dangerous really as
there were steep drops over crags and cornices, but hey I survived and had a
great time.

Back now in snowless Dartmoor, but notice that I had an ice day whilst
away - stupendous weather for March, and it looks like continuing! :-)

A happy easter bunny,

Will

Glad to hear you took my advice not to tackle Striding Edge Will. ;-)

Just returned from up north myself.
North Devon that is.
Snow on Exmoor was very picturesque.
Woolacombe Bay was bracing.

Sculptures and other artwork at Broomhill Art Hotel north of
Barnstaple were inspiring.
