Highest max. temps and lowest min. temps come from

figures are supplied by the Met Office. I don't know how many stations are
covered in all.

Lowest max. and highest min. are taken from the reports from the SYNOPs
stations as listed - for example - on Keith Harris's site or plotted here

.. There are 46 of those and I also look at Ken Cook's site for his Copley
readings, i.e. 47 in all.
