Default Summers trying to come...

We;re off to Exmouth on Friday so have been looking for a glimmer of warmth in the models for the past week. Gfs seem to be keen to ridge the Azores High towards the sw, whereas ecm are bullish at holding it back keeping the UK in a cool NW airstream. Now that the ukmo models for us to view run through next weekend I have a glimmer of hope that things are improving day by day and Sunday is looking good now. I'm beginning to think this *may* be the start of summer at last.

I also was scanning through my records back to 1960 to see if there were any trends after cold winter/spring months and although not any real matches, nearest years I could find were 1970, 1985, 1987 and 1996 which were followed by a mix of summer outcomes, however good Junes came up twice and wet Augusts also came up twice. We shall have to see what pans out.

WHat has been evident this May is how cool Spain and other parts of the Med have been, even today the SE of the UK has not been a lot cooler than the Costas.

Nice, the high in the Atlantic that has been giving us persistent cool
temperatures moves eastwards over the UK. IIRC something similar
happened in June 1995.
