Rainfall peaking just inland from Shoeburyness with 90mm at Hadleigh and

the nearby Canvey Island. 71.4mm here.

That's an amazing statistic seeing that Shoebury is the driest place in the

country. As for Canvey Island, much of which is below sea-level, they need

90mm of rain like a hole in the dyke.

21.6mm in my AWS since 0900 GMT yesterday in Wanstead, just 20 odd miles west of Dave. My standard Met pattern gauge will probably reveal there's been more. Looking at the animation Wanstead was on the edge of the heaviest rain which seemed to run north to south like a conveyor belt. George suggested it was similar to January 1987.
