I noticed the lifeboat going out of Newlyn around 10:00, it was fairly hair-raising watching it pass Penlee point.

Eventual strongest gusts in the 70-75mph range on the most exposed parts of the south coast, and exposed hilltops like Culdrose where the maximum gust was 71mph.
At 18:00 there were reportedly 2,400 homes without power across the Cornwall, with Helston and Marazion most affected. There was a steady decrease in the wind (rather than any sharp drop) throughout the afternoon, though it's picking up a bit in the latest batch of rain.
Luckily the tides aren't big at the moment. Swell peaked at 21' at Sevenstones, everything developed too quickly for a really large swell today, but that doesn't mean that the sea isn't very rough, it certainly is. A larger swell is forecast to arrive tomorrow, and possibly bigger still on Friday.
