I just noticed that the Weather Buoy (62023) off Cork was reporting 260/68
with gusts to 86 knots (99 mph) at 1200 as well!
The red alert looks spot on!
Well done Met Office!

At 1300z it reported a gust of 96 knots. I'm not sure but that might be a gas
platform rather than a buoy. If so, the anemometer might well be much higher
than the standard 10m height. Nebvertheless, it's an impressive gust!
The pressure rises coming into the SW of Ireland now (up 13.9 mb in 3 hours at
Valentia at 1300z) will contibute hugely to the wind strength coming across the
Irish Sea in the next few hours. 100 mph gusts might be under-cooking it a bit!
We've been up to Force 8 at times in Tideswell since 1300z with a max gust of
48 knots. A fair bit to go before it reaches a peak here.
