David, welcome to the world of the weather, its always worked like that, and thankfully will always continue to work like that, as long as the sun is there to keep it going.

Have you noticed how much the Gulf stream has gone out of fashion in these 'what's to blame for this weather' reports? Though a reporter earlier this year mentioned that the 'Gulf stream had reached speeds of nearly 200mph...' Can you imagine the effect that would cause.
