I was on the bus today, an old woman stood up with heavy shopping, and fell over when the bus braked. The woman said she couldn't get up, yet people on the bus just stared at her, like she was a freak. As I walked towards her, I saw blood on the floor. I sat her up and could see she had cut a vein, and the blood was pumping out. I put my hankie on the cut and pressed hard, and shouted to the driver to call an ambulance. The chattering middle class liberals are very concerned about gays and illegal immigrants, yet couldn't give a fig, that a sense of community has been lost. All they want is for people to be subservient. People's subservience is so deep into the culture of this country now that people expect to be looked after from cradle to grave. It's very corrosive to the sense of community were people help each other, and not calling the police or suing over the least problem.

Well, Thatcher said there was no such thing as Society and did much, directly and indirectly, to promote individualism and the weakening of community values. From your evidence I'd say she has succeeded. How on earth you can attribute any of this to middle-class liberals is beyond me and I don't envisage the bus being exactly full of these.

The people on the bus may have been reluctant to intervene on the grounds that they were not qualified first-aiders and might get prosecuted or sued if something went wrong. Keep well away! You are far more important than a poor old lady! All that matters is *you* and of course your money! The state will deal with it. This, again, is a symptom of selfish non-involvement.

The situation you describe probably has more prosaic explanation. The bus was probably full of mainly women shoppers and seeing you as a man take charge of things thought it better not to get in the way especially as some physical strength may be needed to lift the old dear back on to her feet. But it does reveal your mindset that you can jump straight into a rant, using this as a provocation.

Nothing to do with the weather, of course. Why didn't you post it somewhere else?

And it also reveals your mind set Tudor(or should I say the mind set of the guardian reader) that you chide a man who actually helped and then criticise him for feeling disappointed that no one else seemed to give a flying fig. Then to further the mind set you go out of your way to find excuses with all sorts of apologies why no one else helped. Then to top it all you somehow got Thatcher into the equation. I'm sure America and George Bush had a hand in tripping the old girl up as well not to mention the Israelis.

Sorry Tudor but my views have changed radically over the decades and we've clashed on this topic before but when that 23 year old Sam Guidera from Penge was fatally stabbed on a damp February Saturday evening about 3 years ago now for his mobile phone it seems and left to die unbeknownst to me as I sat in my lounge about 100 yards away. Sam is one of many over the decades who are not involved in gang culture , wouldn't say boo to a goose who have losts their lives to crime.

http://www.samguidera.org/crimewatch.html Note the website is run by those that suffered the personal loss and not a whole host of left wing political rump that want to win vote and make political capital like with the Steven Lawrence case. I would say now that this is not my attempt to make this a race issue but my observations , its the left that do that, both murders were an abomination to our modern society but they are happening all the time and are kept very quiet unless the left can make capital from the loss (like blaming Thatcher). Again with Stephen Lawrence a very similar murder we hear about Steven's all the time yet with Sam we hear nowt.

Do me a favour look for Sam's name in the Guardian pages and then Stephen's

No if any thing is to blame for a none caring society it's the post war left in education, politics, the judiciary , local government and so on that has increasingly excused and rationalised anti social behaviour and undermined the whole role of personal responsibility. The left also lie all the time if reality doesn't fit with their mind set. Surely Tudor you saw the mess the ' travellers' left behind Lidls and the Golden Lion pub which you frequent, not that long ago or maybe you didn't but it was hard to miss and if you did see my mention of it and you did see the state of the place but failed to at least acknowledge that it was a problem; well there within you have the issue.
