Default Norwich localised slow moving storm on Sunday 20th July

I had the 'fortune' to be visiting family in Thorpe Saint Andrew about 3 miles to S of Norwich Airport on Sunday.

After a sultry hour of almost unbroken sunshine a large CB was developing just to SE of us. The following storm was much as Norwich reports suggest except at all times the wind stayed calm or MAX 05 Knots yet EGSH reported 17 Gust 38 Kts at 1420. The 3 hours of often continuous torrential rain produce widespread local flooding including in the garden we were looking on to! The lightning was frequent and often overhead with instantaneous thunder. No hail seen.
Noted that Norwich Airport received 58 mm of rain.

Surprising that 3 hours after the storm we drove back to Mid Suffolk. Roads were dry within about 5 miles to SW of Norwich. There was no sign of any significant rainfall along roads all the way back to Mid Suffolk. Nil in my gauge for 24 hrs to 0900 this morning.

There has been thunderstorms close to home on 4 separate occasions in the last week but I have only received a total of 10.2 mm.in those 7 days. Whilst Wattisham 10 miles to my SE has had only 7 mm

Getting fed up with repeated need to water pot plants in garden, when every direction from us seems to have had at least one heavy rainfall event.

I think Norwich and Canvey Island had very similar but separate events.
They had 75mm in about the same timescale with just 5mm 10 miles away
here. Bothj made the 9pmm BBC news!
