Given Up

I've given up watching the "national" news on BBC or ITV. It really
should be called "international news only". We've had news about
airliners crashing into the desert, and in Ukraine, then there's
something going on with Jews and Arabs again in Gaza. Anyone would think
the UK doesn't exist!
I think the first news on the national news should be British news,
except in very exceptional circumstances like 9/11 or WW3 breaking out.
The international news can come second. We need British news for
British people!
It's a smaller world now, and the international news is of major
interest to most businesses- very few UK businesses don't rely on
foreign imports or exports.
Though I agree with much of the sentiment, particularly with regards to
the arts- comedy and pop music are two areas that don't cross the
Atlantic easily both ways and the British variety has often suffered at
the expense of the US-based media industry.
Would be nice to see a much a greater local emphasis on the BBC as a
whole- there's a lot of excellent local content around on the net that's
better than what they are airing.
The same is true of America to an even worse extent, and there hasn't
been half the necessary political will to keep media local. Ironically,
the worst offenders are often the so called "nationalists" who don't
like those involved in British culture- because they're almost always
liberals. They prefer the crude ethnic divisions of Hollywood because
despite it being irrelevant in modern Britain, it fits their own
prejudices. Sad.
