So that is now two consecutive summer months with 100mm rainfall after
the 18mm so far today. A rare event indeed in these parts and no such
other occasion can I find since my rainfall records started in 2008.
There have only been five other months with 100mm in that period and
August last year had 71.5 mm in one day. There have been many months with
figures in the 90's so it is clearly a bit of a threshold.

I always count the months when it is *less* than 100 mm!
Monthly totals this year so far:
Jan 368 mm
Feb 371 mm
Mar 91 mm
Apr 139 mm
May 115 mm
Jun 75 mm (dry)
Jul 24 mm (very dry)
So 3 relatively dry months so far this year :-)

Until 2100 Z today the August rainfall has reached 130.2 mm, so despite the
dry July, the "summer" rainfall (247.2 mm) has now exceeded the average (235
mm).
