I had a little chat with ATC around 0720Z after they opened up with
7C...they've been having a few problems.

Still looks low to me. The 1300Z METAR has 3°C (Gatwick and
Heathrow 5°C), whereas here it has been 4.5 to 5° since 1130Z. My
readings should be OK. The thermometer is correct to about 0.1°C,
there is a good N'ly breeze and only occasional sunshine on the screen.
I'm getting the impression that the problems at Biggin Hill
would be solved for all time by the purchase of a mercury-in-glass
thermometer (or two). Of course, someone would have to go and read it
but Biggin Hill isn't exactly the busiest airport I've seen, believe
me.
