I am inclined to think that Stansted as well suffers from readings that are
a degree too low.

Yes, I've noticed this from time to time Ian. However it does not seem to be
a consistent problem. I have Stansted-Epping-London City readings 'as live'
on my homepage and generally Stansted is 1° less than Epping, which in turn
is 1° less than London City-much as would be expected. But there are
occasions when Stansted reports 2° or even 3° cooler with no obvious
meteorological explanation. Tends to be daytime readings. No sooner do I
start to investigate METAR archives for EGSS than the temperatures fall into
line. Perhaps it is an AWS reporting problem rather than AWS measurements.
Incidentally I presume that the AWS temperature sensor is attached to the
control tower structure (??)-the top of which I can see from here on a clear
night.
