Fascinating trough disruptions on the way

From Tuesday onwards we are likely to see three trough disruptions take
place in western UK. As fronts come in, slow down and disrupt they will
bring sig. sleet and snow on their eastern edges to quite low levels
(away from southern coasts). Probably turning to rain low down as each
front passes through but over high ground it will stay wintry as
1000-850 hPa thicknesses are quite low. Fronts weaken as they move east
but some wintry precipitation will be likely even in places like Essex.
Northern areas are likely to see a lot of snow this week right down to
low levels as cold air becomes well established in the boundary layer
and reluctant to give way.

I see it is snowing in Cornwall and it might snow "even in places like
Essex" later ! Time to throw out my old Geography books or at least tear
out the chapter on the British Climate. :-(
