Take care clearing your driveways.

We tend not to clear anything around here these days, ever since one
neighbour made a complete pig's ear of it. She went out and shovelled up
the snow off her path and the public path outside her house. So far so
good, but once she'd done that she went indoors and came out with a bucket
of hot water and threw it along the bit she's cleared, and then swept the
resulting mush off to the side. Temperature at the time was about -4C, so
you can imagine the trouble that ensued.

I suppose I ought to add that she is an African immigrant, so probably
didn't know any better. The East Europeans that live around here just
don't bother, but spend a couple of minutes walking up and down compacting
the whole lot. Much better in my opinion. At least they clear off all the
snow from their cars before driving off. She just lets the wipers clear
what they can, and drives off half blind.

I don't clear much. I just bummphhh to get the car out, a lot of our deep
snow up here is powdery so can do that. I do clear our paths to dustbin and
workshop though. If you leave them they eventually turn icy and as they are
on a slope, quite slippery. The lane gets cleared by the 4WDs or we actually
use the grit bins kindly supplied and re-stocked by the Council.

Never forget 2010 though. We took our car up to the top road as that is
ploughed and we can get out. However, overnight the plough pushed a huge
wall of snow in front of the car. Took me an hour to shovel that lot clear.
It was heavy, full of road grit and quite dirty. I was feeling quite
knackered too, but thankfully, no heart attack!
