I don't have the earlier charts to refer to, but my memory of the GFS
and ECM charts (the only ones I normally look at) is that many -
possibly most - have located high pressure close enough to southern
England to suggest that - though the air at altitude would be mild - it
would be likely to remain cold over much of England, with light winds
and either anticyclonic gloom or sharp frosts overnight and possible
fog. The 12Z GFS and ECM runs are now both showing variants of this.
