Default Research points to the importance of the PDO phase in how quicklyglobal temperatures rise.

I think the answer to that lies in the Synoptics it produces. Obviously if super-cold winters strike well populated areas, as has happened in the US north east this winter, it will skew the layman's thinking. Conversely a run of mild winters here will produce the inevitable 'children won't know what snow is' comments. Sorry if that's stating the obvious but most of the world's population doesn't see deserts growing / glaciers evaporating etc
