Today it reached only 17.0C in Penzance, despite prolonged sunshine (over 80% of the possibly sunshine today - so far - even up on the moors at Bosullow http://www.sunrecorder.net/googlemap...serial=1000 5 )
Maximum temperatures 17.5C are unusual in Penzance late July / August, as this is approximately the SST - though over the last 10 days it has dropped by from 17.5C to 16C, even lower where the wind's offshore.
Taking late July to be 21st - 31st then, during the period 1992-2015, there have been (including today) only 4 days when the temperature has failed to reach 17.5C
These a-
20/7/11 15.7C - Dull, occasional rain.
24/07/15 16.4C - Showery rain, some late afternoon sunshine prevented this being a new cool record.
26/07/09 17.0C - Rain all day.
and today
30/07/15 17.0C - Long periods of sunshine.
So today is a new 'cool' record for a late July sunny day.

That is cold for Penzance in July!
Another cool, cloudy, showery day here.

Turned into a lovely day here. Prolonged sunshine & very little wind made the still below normal maximum of 18.8C feel like summer.
Calm sea conditions, an ideal jumping off the breakwater day

Could be good surfing Monday afternoon, if GFS has it right (around 10mph SW broken cloud), far too much wind if the MetO is right (18-20mph). All down to how the old isobars spread just after the cold front goes through. There's normally a quiet hour or so whatever the forecast. Magic seaweed shows the quiet slot with a 4-6' wave around noon.

I seem to be getting sidetracked.
