Yes, the first "proper" Cape Verde type storm to have a chance of hurricane development, having been quashed by the increased Atlantic shear generally associated with El Nino (and it seems a dry dusty layer off the Sahara again).

Tropical Depression Four has just been upgraded to Tropical Storm Danny with max sustained winds ~40mph. Forecast calls for a further strengthening as it turns WNW and it could be a hurricane by Thursday 20th.

Climatologically we are in the usual "window" within an El Nino-dominated atmosphere for Cape Verde storms to develop (up to mid to late September), with the Saharan ridge breaking down and circulations developing along the ITCZ, which has become much more vigorous recently. We might expect maybe three or four more of these to try to track across the Atlantic before October.
