Excellent program and Schafernaker comes across well. Interesting that
forecasts are changing to suit the information-hungry generation with
mention of jetstreams and the bigger picture. Bill Giles always insisted
that in his time mention of the Jetstream would lose half his viewers
overnight, which I always thought was rather arrogant...basically saying
these things were for the trade only and no education of the audience was
necessary. The perennial over-emphasising of London and the SE of England in
forecasts was explained well. Tomasz is not as bad as some of his colleagues
in this respect.

The link I gave was to a follow up piece to the main half hour programme: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b065tqyq#play
which I also enjoyed.

I partly selected the follow up since it featured the BBC's increasing interest in the Jet Stream which had been mentioned in another thread here.

Sixteen minutes into the main program Dr Helen Roberts discusses how the weather is chaotic, from a scientific POV. It is not just weather - climate is also chaotic, which explains why it is so easy for the deniers to argue against the science of climate change. Antarctic sea ice extent is a good case in point.

Cheers, Alastair.
