WSW is the direction for us in a lee wave. The Cross Fell /Dun Fell ridge takes the blame I think. Leeds is a windy city and I think the Pennine Lee Wave causes problems there as well.
Certainly the airport is notorious for crosswinds and there are several youtube videos of that.
