I need some advice from local weather experts in Leeds area please? I
would
like to know whether Leeds gets affected by lee gustiness in a strong SW
airflow so I can advise my daughter who lives in NE Leeds. Looking at the
charts it is looking quite serious for northern England on Saturday with
a
stable flow and geostrophic winds in excess of 80 knots. I know Ken (and
Sheffield) has problems in a westerly, but SW'ly to the east of the
Pennines?

Hi, Will,
WSW is the direction for us in a lee wave. The Cross Fell /Dun Fell ridge
takes the blame I think. Leeds is a windy city and I think the Pennine Lee
Wave causes problems there as well.
Certainly the airport is notorious for crosswinds and there are several
youtube videos of that.
WSW gale here again last night, 02:20Z WSW 34G44KT.

Thanks Ken. Been up there in a westerly with powerful gusts. Better alert my
daughter I think, especially as there is now a yellow warning out.
